Featured Creative Student, Ted Pedro is following in his brother's foot steps to pursue a career in Art Direction. After founding a streetwear apparel company, he has made the decision study advertising and change career. Learn more about Ted in his Q&A profile below.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your story? What do you want to share with other creative professionals?
Hey, I'm Ted. An art director and graphic designer originally from Calgary, Alberta but now currently based out of Toronto. I am a Co-Founder of Free Motive a streetwear apparel brand mostly focused on design. Then found out about advertising and decided to take the jump and pursue it. I've had amazing experiences at agencies like Droga5 New York and Momentum Toronto working on dream brands like Facebook, Nike and Spotify.
Where and what are you studying?
I recently graduated from the Miami Ad School in Toronto, focusing on Art Direction.
What drew or motivated you to pursue studies in such a creative field?
I think my brother was a huge influence on my decision to pursue advertising. He is an Art Director and always an amazing mentor. I was originally in graphic design and used those skills to start my own streetwear brand. I loved thinking of ideas for our audience, whether it was making and designing the clothes or creating events and ads for new clothing drops. My brother slowly introduced me to the industry, so I decided to take the jump and go to Miami Ad School.
What’s been the best project that you’ve worked on to date?
I have been fortunate enough to have worked at Droga5 with the most talented creatives in the world. I recently got to work on their Whoop - Know Yourself campaign, which was directed by the great and talented duo, rubberband. Working on sports brands like this is always a plus and I feel that I've learned the most during this one just because of the quality of the craft.
Where do you hope to see yourself in five years?
Hopefully on vacation! Just kidding! But the advertising industry doesn't usually give breaks. So, I see myself loving my job and continuing to create great work that I'm proud of.
Everyone needs time out. What do you do in your spare time to help re-energize your creative side?
Aside from spending time with my dog, practicing my jump shot and ball handling skills, also watching the NBA and playing video games. I like to shut out work completely to re-energize.
Where can others see more of your work and how can they get in touch with you?
